Larian Studios' masterpiece swept awards season, winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards, DICE, BAFTA, and three other major ceremonies.

Baldur's Gate 3 has completed the most dominant awards season in gaming history, claiming Game of the Year at six major ceremonies including The Game Awards, DICE Awards, BAFTA Games Awards, Game Developers Choice Awards, IGN People's Choice, and the Golden Joystick Awards. It is the first game to sweep all six major annual GOTY ceremonies — a feat that reflects not just the game's quality but the depth of its impact on players and the industry.

Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke accepted the final award at The Game Awards with a speech that was characteristically direct: "This is proof that if you trust players with complex systems and real choices, they will reward you." The studio, which operated independently throughout BG3's development despite pressure to seek publisher backing, is now the most commercially successful independent RPG studio in history.

The game's GOTY run has been remarkable for both its breadth and the margin of victory in voting categories. In the IGN People's Choice award — fully determined by public vote — BG3 received 64% of total votes, more than all other nominees combined. The BAFTA win was particularly notable as the first time a PC-exclusive-at-launch title won that award since 2014.

The wins come as Larian announced they are moving on from the Baldur's Gate IP to focus on two new, entirely original RPG projects developed simultaneously at their expanded studios across five cities. The studio has grown from 400 to over 1,000 employees in the two years since BG3's full release, and has committed to hiring 200 more in 2024.

Absolutely massive news. The gameplay footage exceeded every expectation I had. Fall 2025 can't come soon enough.

The detail in the world design shown in that trailer is staggering. Rockstar clearly spent years perfecting every block.

Never thought I'd see the day. Lucia as protagonist is a great choice — really excited for the dual story structure.
